parahippocampal gyrus

Component of the temporal lobe on the mesial surface, posterior to the entorhinal cortex. The rostral and caudal boundaries are the posterior end of the netorhinal cortex and the caudal portion of the hippocampus, respectively. The medial boudnary is designated as the medial aspect off the temporal lobe and the lateral boundary is the collateral sulcus (Christine Fennema-Notestine). Every claim on this page comes from the Leumas anatomy graph and carries its source.

What the parahippocampal gyrus is

Component of the temporal lobe on the mesial surface, posterior to the entorhinal cortex. The rostral and caudal boundaries are the posterior end of the netorhinal cortex and the caudal portion of the hippocampus, respectively. The medial boudnary is designated as the medial aspect off the temporal lobe and the lateral boundary is the collateral sulcus (Christine Fennema-Notestine). The atlas records it as a region at the region scale in the human body.

Where the parahippocampal gyrus is

It sits within the nervous system. Positioned deliberately as part of this species body plan.

What the parahippocampal gyrus connects to

The atlas records 11 typed relationships for it, across 4 kinds of connection. part of limbic lobe, limbic system and temporal lobe.

Supply and innervation

This dataset asserts no arterial supply, venous drainage or innervation for the parahippocampal gyrus. Only a minority of structures carry those edges here, so an empty answer means nothing has been recorded — not that there is nothing to record.

Also called

Also recorded as hippocampal gyrus, gyrus hippocampi, gyrus parahippocampalis, gyrus parahippocampi and hippocampal convolution. Searching any of those names reaches this page.

Questions

Where is the parahippocampal gyrus?

It sits within the nervous system. Positioned deliberately as part of this species body plan.

What does the parahippocampal gyrus connect to?

Part of: limbic lobe, limbic system and temporal lobe.

Is the parahippocampal gyrus the same in other species?

Leumas holds the same relationship vocabulary for every species it carries, so where another dataset records this structure you can put the two side by side on /compare.
