ventral striatum in dogs

A composite structure of the telencephalon that is defined in the striatopallidal system by connectivity and neurochemical staining. It includes the nucleus accumbens, the most ventral portions of the caudate nucleus and the putamen, the rostrolateral portion of the anterior perforated substance, the islands of Calleja and a rostral subcommissural portion of substantia innominata. The boundary between the ventral striatum and dorsal striatum is indistinct in sections stained for Nissl substance (Heimer-1995; adapted from Brain Info). Every claim on this page comes from the Leumas anatomy graph and carries its source.

What the ventral striatum is

A composite structure of the telencephalon that is defined in the striatopallidal system by connectivity and neurochemical staining. It includes the nucleus accumbens, the most ventral portions of the caudate nucleus and the putamen, the rostrolateral portion of the anterior perforated substance, the islands of Calleja and a rostral subcommissural portion of substantia innominata. The boundary between the ventral striatum and dorsal striatum is indistinct in sections stained for Nissl substance (Heimer-1995; adapted from Brain Info). The atlas records it as a nerve at the organ scale in the dog.

Where the ventral striatum is

It sits within the nervous system. Not positioned individually. Drawn inside the structure this dataset says contains it β€” the containment is asserted, the exact spot within it is not.

What the ventral striatum connects to

The atlas records 8 typed relationships for it, across 4 kinds of connection. part of forebrain, striatum and telencephalon.

Supply and innervation

This dataset asserts no arterial supply, venous drainage or innervation for the ventral striatum. Only a minority of structures carry those edges here, so an empty answer means nothing has been recorded β€” not that there is nothing to record.

Also called

Also recorded as striatum ventral region and striatum ventrale. Searching any of those names reaches this page.

Questions

Where is the ventral striatum?

It sits within the nervous system. Not positioned individually. Drawn inside the structure this dataset says contains it β€” the containment is asserted, the exact spot within it is not.

What does the ventral striatum connect to?

Part of: forebrain, striatum and telencephalon.

Is the ventral striatum the same in other species?

This page describes the dog. The human record of the same structure sits beside it on /compare, over one shared model rather than two atlases built separately.
